Pier 21 Reads with Madeleine Thien

Join us for a reading of Do Not Say We Have Nothing with author Madeleine Thien, followed by a book signing.

Born in Vancouver, Thien is the author of a short story collection and three novels. Her most recent novel, Do Not Say We Have Nothing (2016), explores the story of an extended Chinese family of musical prodigies in the 1960s and 1970s, the fallout from the Tiananmen Square Massacre and a fragmented family in modern Vancouver who take in a Chinese refugee. It won the Governor General’s Award for English-language fiction, and the 2016 Scotiabank Giller Prize. It was also shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.
