Before the Titanic, there was the SS Atlantic. The White Star Line’s worst disaster pre-Titanic, the SS Atlantic wrecked at Lower Prospect on April 1, 1873 with huge loss of life, mostly immigrants. In commemoration of the catastrophe, a new temporary exhibit launches at the Museum. Join us for the opening featuring a presentation by Bob Chaulk, author of SS Atlantic: The White Star Line’s First Disaster at Sea, and a moving live performance of music similar to what was performed on board the SS Atlantic. A reception with coffee, tea and sweets will follow.
