Artist, activist and director Ai Weiwei captures the incredible scope of the global refugee crisis in his breathtakingly epic film journey, Human Flow. Screening at the Museum in recognition of World Refugee Day, Human Flow is an ambitious, humane and eye-opening cine-essay about the refugee crisis that will inspire empathy and understanding.

Human Flow began in 2015 when Ai Weiwei was assisting with the arrival of refugees in Lesbos, Greece. He set up and staffed a mini art studio on the island and a small crew began filming. It was the beginning of a motion picture of massive scope. Over the course of Human Flow’s creation, Ai Weiwei and crew visited 23 countries, embarking on what was also became a sprawling educational experience of human history and geopolitics as well as environmental and social change.

From 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., participants are invited to visit the exhibition Refuge Canada as preparation for the screening.
